My experience in Vincent Massey School

I had some good experience working with students from Vincent Massey School during my regular work hours. I worked as an educational assistant in Pembina Trails School Division. This job involves going to various schools to work with students ranging from Kindergarten to grade 12. My regular visit to the school was a great and wonderful learning experience for it broadened and deepened my perspective on early childhood education and literacy.

The drawback of .working in different schools is that it is usually difficult to know the students well and build relationship with them.

However, I interacted with one amazing student who I always meet in the bus while going to work in the morning. In the course of our daily interaction, I spoke to him about the project “A journey Back To Sedika From Winnipeg”. As we continued our discussion, He indicated his interest and told me he wanted to know more about the project. Subsequently, I communicated the objectives and progress of the project since its commencement in 2015.

After our discussion, he expressed his willingness to be involved and support the project in fulfilling its vision and goals in the community. Furthermore, He told me he is involved in a social club and he would ask his teacher if I could come and share my experience with them. Subsequently, he spoke to his teacher and a session arranged for me to come and do a short presentation for about 20 students. The energy and enthusiasm in the room was great as I shared my experience and fielded in questions from students after the presentation. They made their recommendations and suggestions on how to move the project to the next level.

In addition, I informed them on my plans to organize another fund raising event in couple of months. After the project presentation to the students, I had a one on one discussion with Gabe the student who arranged for the presentation to the students and teachers. After this event, we continued to keep in touch for quite some time until when we decided to organise a fund raising event to support the project. Gabe and I sat down to discuss and planned to organize a fund raising event to raise some fund for this project. We eventually organised an event together. Though we were not able to raise any fund this time, we had a great experience working together. I will always remember Gabe and his family and the effort we made to raise the fund for the project.
