Our event at the UW

We organised our first event of the year at the University of Winnipeg on 23, of March 2019. We have been working hard for the last two month to make this happen. We are grateful for all the support we received along the line and during the event. This particular event was basically organised for two reasons. The first one was to share the project’s work in Sedika Ethiopia, and here in Winnipeg with people who supported us in our effort to implement the project’s objectives.

The project work is in progress since its beginning . We have been hearing all the outcomes , and many inspiring stories came out from the process. The completion of the constriction of the learning center in Sedika Elementary school is the most significant achievement of this project, apart from the support we provided to Sedika students. That is a very exciting thing at the moment for what we can do using the learning center is more exciting for we want to establish a strong and meaningful support system that will support children in need in Sedika elementary school. We will use the learning center to provide support to all Sedika students , not only to students in need. We want to run some programs that will support children become successful in their respective endeavours. We want to use the learning center to bring the students, the teachers, the parents and the community together to learn, and grow together.

We believe it was a successful event for people came and enjoyed the meal and the conversations. We are grateful for encouraging and constructive feedbacks we received from the participants. During this event, we presented to the audience our progress report of the ongoing development activities in Sedika highlighting our various achievement and success of the project, especially in the area of providing of basic school supplies and other resources as well as the construction of the learning center. As part of the event, we had presented our first video prepared by David Everette, a former educational assistant and Photographer. This video was produced with the hope of informing viewer about the brief history of the project, its objectives, and its activities and work of the project. David work so hard to produce this video using all the pictures, the videos we had on file together using the interviews with Samson Tadese, the project manager.

The event was successful for we were able to receive a feedbacks, encouragement from the participant. Most of the speakers are of the view that this is a great project with great cause, but suggested more need to be done in area of improving the attendance rate. They suggested that all hands should be on deck to ensure that everyone contribute meaningfully to this project. Some of the participants were willing to work with us in various ways, and some made pledges for financial support. We heard many encouraging and constructive feedbacks that encourage us to keep up the good work towards ensuring the continuous growth and success of our project.

We are grateful to everyone who came to this event to support us. We are grateful for the feedbacks, and the donations we received during this event. I want to use this opportunity to extend my appreciation in behalf of the project "A Journey back to Sedika from Winnipeg" to Woynee Abereha, and her husband Emanuel for their great support. They have involved in the planning, meal preparation and in making sure this event was a success. I want to thank David Attem, my former academic advisor, and a friend from the University of Winnipeg for his support and encouraging words. I want to thank Mr. Strini Randi for his advice, support, and words of encouragement. I want to thank Aklilu Teferi, a friend who encouraged me along the line and during this event as well. I want to say Thanks to everyone who came to support us, and thanks to the University of Winnipeg event coordinator for their support! Thank you and May God bless you!
