The experience of working on the project, "A Journey back to Sedika from Winnipeg" in Ethiopia

In the last three years together we have been working so hard , begining from discussing the project's objective and how to go about implimenting the project's objectives. We spend all our times , energy and resoures we have for we truly belive there is a need and there is something we can do to fulfill the need.

Three years ago it was just an thought and an idea. It requied a lots of courage and determination and dedication, and planing to start working on the project. Along the line we faced fear , frustrations, discouragements , failurs , as we also had a lots of exciting, encouraging, motivating, and learning experiences but didn't lose our focus for there was a purpose for we have seen the great need. We know there is a huge need in schools located in small towns like Sedika for there is limited resource.

We are grateful for all the support we received and the money we raised, especial thanks to Manitoba Council for International Cooperation and for individuals who supported us in various ways . We came to implement the project's objective during the 2017/18 school year. We are happy for we were able to support 115 Sedkika studnts by providing basic school suplies and othere educational aid matarils including uniform. Now , we are building the resource center that will be used to proved support for studnts coming to the school .

We have been doing amazingly well in Ethiopia in the last one month . We were able to share our ideas , desires and motivation with wide range of people . We had a chance to talk to families and friends and relatives about the projects objective , our motivation and ambition and our accomplishment thus far . We have a chance to talk to many people from various profession , we talked to people in accademic area , particularly with people close to education, we talk to business people and people who are interested in education , children and community . They all believe we have a great objectives , and gave us a promises of support . We want the local comunities to understand the cause and to work with us for we believe everyone has a role to play in this.

In the last three weeks we have worked hard to organise one event to share our thoughts and experiences working in this project . People showed us their support for our work. We were able to share our experiences and raised some money that will be used to finishe the resource center , which is in construction since May, 2018. We are grateful for people responded well to our call .

We want to take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to all who supported us in this . We want to thank Addis Ababa University, particularly for the department of Early Childhood Care and Education Depertment for their support and for providing us a platform to share our experiences . We want to thank IES library for providing us their space to share our experiences with wider community.

I personally want to take this opportunity to thank the 2007 ILS graduates who supported me and the project idea , especial thank to Samson Kiflom , Bereket Asefa , Menbere Asnake , Asmerom her husband , Yamlaketsega Zenebe , Biruk Gemechu , Esrael adugna , Frehiwot , Shemeles and all of who are behind the cause. Thank you and may God bless you !
